In a statement on Thursday, Senator Lindsey Graham urged President Trump to “use emergency powers to fund the construction of a border wall/barrier” while condemning Democrats’ continued efforts to prevent funding for such security measures.
Graham admonished House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats for their “refusal to negotiate on funding for a border wall/barrier,” which he said “virtually ends the congressional path to funding for a border wall/barrier.”

The Senator’s remarks came as President Trump toured the US-Mexico border in Texas, meeting with law enforcement officials from local and federal agencies, and discussed the ongoing crisis at the border, including drugs, guns, and human trafficking crimes.
With the ongoing partial shutdown of the federal government continuing, Democrats remain adamant that the president’s requested $5.7 billion dollars for increases to security, including his proposed border wall, will be met with universal opposition.
Now, as the shutdown nears its third full week on Friday, opponents of Trump’s planned increases to security at the US border are appearing weary, leaving Democrat leaders scrambling to justify their continued refusal to negotiate on the issue.
While visiting the US-Mexico borderline during his trip to Texas on Thursday, Trump continued to fuel speculation that he may declare a national emergency to bypass Democrats’ efforts to thwart the construction of the wall.
